Ian Bertrand

Biography

Ian Bertrand is the Chief Executive Officer of Offshore Technology Solutions Limited, a Trinidad & Tobago offshore energy services firm that specialises in Subsea Construction and is the founding Principal of El Perial Management Services, a management consulting firm established in 1993.  He is one of the earliest practitioners of Operations Research in the Caribbean.

Ian’s background is varied; he was for two (2) years the Principal-in-Charge of the Eastern Caribbean Consulting Practice of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co.  Thereafter he was Divisional Manager, Systems & Economics and a member of executive management of Trinidad & Tobago Oil Company Limited (TRINTOC, now PETROTRIN), prior to joining BWIA International Airways in 1979 as Chief Executive Officer – a position he held for fourteen (14) years. 

During his tenure at BWIA the airline became the leading one in the Caribbean, expanding into Europe.  At BWIA Ian paid particular attention to Strategic Planning and Schedule Planning for the airline, aircraft selection and the financing of fleet restructuring, negotiations of air services agreements and the restructuring of the airline's operations and finances inclusive of a successful rightsizing programme.

Ian has been focusing on the development of mutually beneficial partnerships between airlines and the tourism industry in the Caribbean as well as the development of community-based sustainable tourism in the region. 

Ian holds an M.A. degree from the University of Cambridge and the M.Sc. and D.I.C. degrees from the University of London, England, where he specialized in Operations Research and Management Studies.
